The new Goodyear location of Federico's Mexican Food is celebrating its grand opening on Friday, Oct. 19.

Federico's Mexican Food is celebrating its newest West Valley location by offering customers a free dish at its Goodyear restaurant.

The giveaway runs 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the new branch, 1360 S. Cotton Lane, off Yuma Road. The grand-opening celebration includes a mariachi band and a burrito-eating contest.

To redeem the free dish, guests must print or show a coupon that can be found on Federico’s Facebook or Instagram.

Options include your pick of one shredded beef taco, one red chicken taco, one cheese quesadilla, one fish taco or three rolled tacos. The limit is one per guest.

West Valley expansion

The Goodyear restaurant is the latest in a West Valley expansion for the Phoenix-based, fast-casual Mexican food chain.

The company opened a restaurant at 6841 W. Northern Ave. in Glendale in early October. This follows the August opening of the Youngtown location at 11608 W. Olive Ave. All three stores have drive-through windows, and the Goodyear restaurant has a patio.

“The communities in the West Valley have welcomed Federico’s with open arms,” company vice president Ricardo Araiza said in a statement. “Our continued growth is in direct response to the support of our customers.”

Federico's has 31 locations in Arizona and New Mexico.

Signature dishes include the carne asada combo plate, adobada pork tacos and an expansive breakfast menu including huevos rancheros, chorizo burrito and Spanish omelet.

A comeback for the chain

Federico's Mexican Food was ordered to pay workers more than $200,000 in back wages and damages in 2016.

Federico's West Valley expansion represents a resurgence for the once-embattled chain.

In 2016, four Phoenix-area Federico's Mexican Food restaurants were ordered to pay their employees $202,000 in overtime back wages and damages after an investigation found they violated federal laws related to overtime pay.

In 2013, the chain made national headlines when more than 90 people contracted E. coli after eating at a Federico's Mexican Restaurant in Litchfield Park.
