Lawrence Burton Peet

Lawrence Burton Peet, age 74, a lifelong resident of Joliet, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Hines VA Medical Center. Lawrence was born on June 11, 1943, to the union of Emma (nee Price) and the late Burton Peet. He was a graduate of Joliet Central High School and attended Northern Illinois University. Lawrence is a Veteran of the United States Army, having proudly served our country in Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star for Valor. He was formerly employed with Valleyline Barge Company until it closed, then worked at the Will County Courthouse as a Bailiff.

Lawrence was a Member and past Commander of the VFW Stone City Post #2159, VFW Cantigny Post #367, and a former Board Member of Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Being an active Republican, he was a Legislative Aid for Jacob John Wolf, was a Councilman with the 36th District, and was a longtime Board Member with the Laraway School District. After being Honorably Discharged, he stayed very active with several community services assisting with Veterans and active duty military personnel and volunteered with Operation Welcome Home. In his spare time, he enjoyed singing karaoke, listening and dancing to all genres of music, taking trips to museums, and is known for making a delicious pot of chili for local chili cook offs.

Lawrence is survived by his mother, Emma (nee Price); his children, Heather (Michael Spiwak) Peet and Daniel S. Peet; grandchildren, Reilly, Roman, Iryna, and Kelly Spiwak; his siblings, Linda Hill and Robert Peet; his dear friend Cathy Berkos; and his step-sons, Gilbert and Darrell Cortez. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He is preceded in death by his father and his brother, Donald Peet.

Funeral Services for Lawrence Burton Peet will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL. Interment will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to VFW Cantigny Post #367, 826 Horseshoe Dr., Joliet, IL 60435 would be appreciated.
