Cass County 4-H youth exhibit their best at State Fair

Minnesota 4-Hers from 87 counties brought more than 2,300 static exhibits, delivered about 175 public presentations and participated in dozens of group learning experiences and performances at the 2018 Minnesota State Fair. In addition, more than 2,800 youth exhibited livestock at the fair.

Among these exhibits, both static and livestock, were Cass County 4-Hers.

Throughout the year, 4-H youth select project areas that reflect personal areas of interest and pursue hands-on learning that is both self-directed and guided by adult volunteers. The results of their learning are exhibited at county fairs across the state.

A collection of the best exhibits from each county fair is brought to present in the 4-H Building and livestock encampments at the Minnesota State Fair.

Exhibiting project work and livestock and delivering public presentations at the State Fair provides youth an opportunity to showcase their achievements and continue learning through the interactive conference judging and team experiences.

Cass County had 17 youth participating in the following areas; here is how they placed:

• Kaitlyn Hanson, Staples: blue ribbons for showmanship and Nigerian dwarf dairy goat.

• Tierney Johnson, Fifty Lakes: blue ribbons for showmanship and Nubian dry yearling doe dairy goat.

• Jazmin Blowers, Motley: red ribbons for showmanship and recorded grade dry yearling doe dairy goat.

• Ramsey Tulenchik, Pine River: blue ribbon for altered male market goat in the goat meat category.

• Victoria Schultz, Nisswa: white ribbon for poultry chickens and a purple ribbon for grade nine-plus wood based exhibit entry..

• Mikayla Sauber, Motley: blue ribbon in the Bantam breeding pen for poultry chickens.

• Colton Converse, Motley: blue ribbons for a livestock team demo public presentation and a regular yearling breeding ewe.

• Caden Mrazek, Motley: blue ribbons for a livestock team demo public presentation and a breeding ewe, and a purple ribbon for static performance arts.

• Samuel Sauber, Motley: purple ribbon for rabbit breeding for a Dutch senior doe.

• Ashley Foster, Pequot Lakes: blue ribbon for rabbit breeding for a Rex senior doe.

• Matthew Foster, Pequot Lakes: blue ribbon for a black face yearling ewe in breeding as well as champion.

• Brandi McAllister, Pine River: blue ribbon in swine breeding as well as champion.

• Julia Stahnke, Nisswa: red ribbon for sixth- to eighth-grade child and family development.

• Emily Holtti, Pine River: blue ribbon for sixth- to eighth-grade "clothes you make" category.

• Gustin Hoefs, Pequot Lakes: blue ribbon for sixth- to eighth-grade wood based exhibit entry.

• Alex Stahnke, Nisswa: Nisswa, blue ribbon for sixth- to eighth-grade wood based exhibit entry.
