Dozens of central Iowans came together for the second annual Wiffle Golf Tournament at Elks Lodge #98 on Sunday afternoon, raising money for the family of 11-year-old Ava Hutchinson who died earlier this month from brain cancer. About 75 pink and purple balloons were released into the sky before each person teed off to remember Ava, who died just two days before her 12th birthday. Organizers said they never considered canceling the tournament in the wake of Ava’s death because they wanted to support the Hutchinson family. Ava won her first round of brain cancer when she was a toddler, but it crept back and ultimately took her life. Organizers raised $3,000 at last year’s tournament, and they are hoping to raise the same amount this year. All the money will go toward the Hutchinson family's expenses.
