Kiwanis group celebrates 57th birthday

The Lake San Marcos Kiwanis Club
The Lake San Marcos Kiwanis Club recently celebrated its 57th year of service to community with an in-person meeting which drew 25 of its members. The group is part of the Kiwanis International founded in 1915 in Detroit, Mich.
The Lake San Marcos Kiwanis Club was chartered in August 1964 and the Lake San Marcos Foundation, in 1989.
“Serving the Children of the World” became the Kiwanis motto in 2005.

Among other community service projects, the club raises money for scholarships for local high school seniors headed to college - last year about $20,000 in scholarships were awarded despite covid lockdowns.

At the birthday gathering the group donated $1,344 to the Kiwanis Foundation, in part due to the generosity of outgoing Kiwanis President Art Brown, who paid for lunch so members could donate to the Foundation.
At the celebration, incoming Kiwanis President John Gibbs received several tools for pancake flipping to be used at the upcoming pancake fundraiser planned for Feb. 26 at St. Mark’s Church.
Six members received Kwality Kiwanian pins for high achievements this year, including from left, Jim Alden, Jerry Mason, Margo Dutton, Art Brown, Pat Haugen and John Gibbs. Visit lsmkiwanis.org.
