Description A study was conducted at the City of Waitsburg wastewater treatment plant property. The study purpose was to determine if excess nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) associated with the plant are reaching the adjacent Touchet River by groundwater transport. The study data showed that nutrient-rich groundwater is discharging to the river along a 150-200 meter-long section of the property shoreline in the vicinity of the treatment plant infiltration wetland. The study findings will be incorporated with additional surface water monitoring data to determine the impact of this nutrient load on the water quality and ecosystem function of the river.
