North Zone inter-varsity handball tournament begins At PAU
Ludhiana: The North zone Inter-Varsity Handball tournament kick started at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Sunday. Dr B S Dhillon, vice-chancellor, PAU congratulated the teams and exhorted them to rise beyond winning and losing. A total of 36 teams are participating in the event.
In his inaugural address, Dhillon laid out the importance of sports for developing an all round personality.
He urged the participating teams from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and others to use the event as an important platform to interact and discover the rich heritage of diverse Indian cultures.
Dhillon also revealed that the university has produced 3 Olympians till date who have led the Indian hockey team in various international tournaments. He thanked the organisers for taking the initiative of hosting the prestigious event.
Earlier, Dr R.S. Dhaliwal, Director Students Welfare, PAU, welcomed the guests and informed that the handball tournament is being held in the university after a period of 22 years. The inaugural match was betwen Guru Jambeshwar University, Hissar and Chandigarh University, Gharuan.
