High Plains Halloween Tattoo Expo continues Saturday

The second annual High Plains Halloween Tattoo Expo will continue Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Fort Morgan Armory Recreation Center at 528 State St., in Fort Morgan.

The Expo will be open from 2 to 10 p.m. Admission cost is $5 per person per day. The line up of official artists, piercers and vendors is still being finalized. For more information, call Americana Custom Tattoo Parlor at 970-867-2316.

Pope Farms Haunted Corn Maze open Saturday

The annual Pope Farms Haunted Corn Maize is open from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at 19502 MCR 3, Wiggins. The Haunted Corn Maize is separate from the day maze.

Also at Pope Farms this year, there is: a challenging 10-acre corn maze, hay mountain slide, cow train rides, hay rides, pumpkin patch, Corn Hole games, a Giant Corn Box, the Pumpkin Pulverizer, Duck Races, Spider Web, Pumpkin Pillow, corn cannons and petal carts. Regular hours through Oct. 31: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Save Our Sands Theatre Walk/Run set for Saturday

The Brush Chamber Foundation will hold its Save Our Sands Walk/Run 5K on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Memorial Park in Brush. This fundraiser was originally scheduled for during Oktoberfest but was rescheduled for a fun pre-Halloween event instead. It will include a costume contest, with participants encouraged to dress up for while they are racing.

Check-in is from 8 to 8:45 a.m., and the walk/run starts at 9 a.m. Afterward, at about 10 a.m., awards will be given out and refreshments will be available. This event benefits upkeep, preservation and overhead costs at the Sands Theatre in Brush. Register online at brushchamber.org.

First Fort Morgan Boo Bash set for Saturday

The Fort Morgan Chamber of Commerce and the city of Fort Morgan will host the first Fort Morgan Boo Bash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in City Park.

There will be vendors, activity stations, candy give-aways, costume contests, pumpkin painting, face painting and maybe even a zombie walk. (Boo Bash replaces the Trick or Treat Trail, which will not be held this year on Halloween.) Info: 970-867-6702.

Free movie: ‘Hotel Transylvania’ set for Saturday

The Cover Theatre in downtown Fort Morgan will offer a free showing of “Hotel Transylvania” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. Both the free movie and free popcorn are offered courtesy of Allo Communications.

Pumpkin Decorating in Brush set for Saturday

The Brush American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68 will hold a Pumpkin Decorating event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the VFW Building, 110 Clayton St., in Brush.

Supplies and snacks will be provided, and prizes will be given out. Children must be accompanied by adult.

Log Lane Trunk or Treat set for Saturday

The Log Lane Marshal’s Office and Town of Log Lane Village will host their second annual Trunk or Treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Log Lane Town Hall.

Parents can bring their costumed kids for trick-or-treating at the decorated cars in the parking lot. The Log Lane Marshal’s Office also will have a safety booth up and running for the kids and the new police care there, as well.

Queen Lounge Halloween Party, Costume Contest set for Saturday

Queen Lounge will host its 2018 Halloween Party and Costume Contest with a Live DJ from 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, to 2 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at the bar at 112 W. Kiowa Ave., in Fort Morgan.

There will the usual annual Halloween Party and Costume Contest and 2-4-The-Road Entertainment will be playing all the spooky tunes. Come get your freak on at The Queen. Costume contest plays $200 cash prize for each of three categories.

Muir Springs Trap Shoot set for Sunday

The annual Muir Springs Trap Shoot, hosted by Morgan Game & Fish Conservation Club, will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, at Muir Springs. To get to Muir Springs, take state Highway 144 to Morgan County Road 16 and then go north to the ponds and over the drive to the left.

Start time is 10 a.m., and all shooters are welcome. There will be free coffee, and other drinks and snacks will be available for a nominal fee. There will be two electric traps available. Wiggins Tiger Football Sporting Clays fundraiser set for Sunday

The Wiggins Tiger Football 100 + 100 Sporting Clays Fundraiser will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, at Longmeadow Event Center, 8604 MCR 6, in Wiggins.

Check in starts at 8:30 a.m., the main event is at 10 a.m., and the second 100 begins at 1 p.m. Event proceeds benefit Wiggins Tiger Football. Info: 970-483-8368.

ABATE District 1 Toys for Kids Run set for Sunday

The 15th annual ABATE of Colorado District 1 Toys for Kids Run will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, in Fort Morgan.

Registration is from 10 to 11 a.m., and the run starts at 11 a.m. in the Walgreen’s parking lot in Fort Morgan. All vehicles are welcome, with donation of a least one new, unwrapped toy being needed from each participating vehicle. Info: Call 970-768-2989.

Basic Life Support CPR Class set for Sunday

Hearts in Hands CPR will offer a Basic Life Support CPR Class from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at 1000 E. Railroad Ave., in Fort Morgan.

‘Ten Boom’ music/drama show set for Sunday

American Tapestry, a vocal ensemble from Larimer and Weld counties, will present “Ten Boom,” a musical and dramatic adaptation of “Timeless, the Corrie Ten Boom Musical,” at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Brush United Methodist Church, 1701 Edmunds St., in Brush.

This musical performance is about the Ten Boom family that hid and rescued Jews from the Nazis in Holland during World War II. The musical is based on the book and movie, “The Hiding Place.” This performance is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken up.

CPMC holding Monday Night Mammo Night on Oct. 29

Colorado Plains Medical Center will celebrate October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month by holding Monday Night Mammo Night from 5 to 8 p.m. each Monday evening of the month for the hospital’s avid football fans and patients.

Brush Medicare Part D info meeting set for Tuesday

Immanual Congregational Church in Brush in conjunction with the Area Agency on Aging is hosting a Medicare Part D presentation from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the church at the corner of Everett and Clifton streets.

Linda Schilling, the senior services coordinator/ARCH specialist for the Area Agency on Aging, will be going over new information and assist seniors with any changes they may need to make to their current prescription drug plan for 2019 coverage.

Fort Morgan Museum’s annual Haunted Gallery Tour set for Tuesday

Fort Morgan Museum will host its annual Haunted Gallery Tour at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30. Participants will get a look into the museum gallery while finding prizes and listening to spooky stories written by Fort Morgan’s own teen creative writers.

Concluding the museum gallery tour, tour participants will then head to the Children’s Library for a spooky Halloween craft. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come in costume on Oct. 30. Sands Theatre to show ‘Pet Sematary’ movie on Halloween

The Sands Theatre in Brush will offer a special Halloween movie screening of “Pet Sematary” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

“Pet Sematary” was originally released in 1989. It is an American horror film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1983 novel of the same name. This movie is rated R.

Best Western Plus Overland Inn will host a Ghouls & Goblins Costume Contest from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the hotel at 1410 Barlow Road in Fort Morgan.

The winner of the costume contest will receive a free pool party for up to 10 friends. Kids, adults and fur babies welcome to participate. There will be candy.

Trunk or Treat at First Baptist Church set for Wednesday

First Baptist Church in Fort Morgan will hold a Trunk or Treat event from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Morgan Church of the Nazarene will host its annual Fall Fun Fest from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the church at 221 W. Seventh Ave. in Fort Morgan.

There will be games for all ages, food, drinks, lots of candy, a Bible walk and prize drawings. It is a safe place to celebrate Oct. 31. Wear costumes or not. All are welcome.

Dia De Los Muertos Celebration set for Thursday

One Morgan County, the city of Fort Morgan and the Colorado Trust will hold a Dia De Los Muertos Celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at the One Morgan County Community Center, 218 Main St., Fort Morgan.

The event will start with an opening reception, where people can visit the altars and photo station and enjoy traditional treats and music. Then there will be an engaging closing presentation.

Healthy Child Clinic set for Friday

A Healthy Child Clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in the basement at Salud Family Health Center, 729 E. Railroad Ave., in Fort Morgan.

Free health screenings will be available for children ages 6 months to 5 years. These screenings include: Vision, hearing, developmental, height, weight, social/emotional, speech, dental and immunizations. (There may be a cost for immunizations). Call 970-867-4918 for an appointment.

Dia De Los Muertos events set for Friday

One Morgan County, the city of Fort Morgan and the Colorado Trust will offer several Dia De Los Muertos events on Friday, Nov. 2, in downtown Fort Morgan.

There will be facepainting from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the One Morgan County Community Center at 218 Main St. From 5 to 6 p.m., there will be a Sugar Skull Decoration program at Fort Morgan Public Library. From 6 to 8 p.m., there will be a screening of the movie “Coco” in Fort Morgan Public Library.

Local author Terri Dill at EMCL on Nov. 3

KATB Super Hero Soiree set for Nov. 3

Kids At Their Best will hold its annual Super Hero Soiree fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Country Steak-Out in Fort Morgan. It will last until the flamingos go home.

This event benefits the children and teens of Morgan County through the programs that KATB offers around the area. It’s the most fun fundraiser you will ever attend, organizers say. The Association for Children with Disabilities Election Night Chili/Soup Supper will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Fort Morgan United Methodist Church.

Veterans reception and author Adam Makos visit set for Nov. 7

The Morgan Community College (MCC) Center for Arts and Community Enrichment (CACE) will host a Veterans Reception and Author Presentation with international best-selling author Adam Makos from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in MCC’s Founders Room.

Makos is a journalist, historian and editor of the military magazine Valor. He is the author of the international bestseller A Higher Call; critically acclaimed Devotion; and upcoming release in February 2019, Spearhead. He has interviewed countless veterans and toured parts of the world investigating their stories. A native of Pennsylvania, Makos now resides in Denver.

Originally inspired by the service and history of his two grandfathers, Makos will share stories of those who have served during the Korean War and World War II, their struggles of war, and the inspiring brotherhood built during these life-changing events. After the presentation, Makos will take questions from the audience. Copies of his books will be available for sale, with autographs available upon request. ‘Fall Into Winter’ author visit from DeAnna Knippling set for Nov. 8

Fort Morgan Public Library and the Fort Morgan Heritage Foundation are sponsoring the “Fall into Winter” Colorado Author Series, which allows patrons to meet and hear from some of Colorado’s most popular and current authors.

Another author visit is from DeAnna Knippling at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at the library. She is an author of 10 books including the highly acclaimed “A Murder of Crows.” Knippling specializes in fantasy, science fiction and horror. She notes that her stories come from the worlds that she created growing up as a farm kid.

Coffee and Donuts with Veterans set for Nov. 12

Brush VFW Post No. 3551 will hold a Coffee and Donuts with Veterans event from 9:45 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, which is also the day Veterans Day is observed this year.

There will be a bus load of veterans, many in wheelchairs, coming from Eben Ezer to see the mural at the post and to share snacks and stories with any and all who would like to visit with them. Stop by an make this day memorable for them.

Teen Creative Writing Club to meet Nov. 14

Teens have the opportunity to explore all types of writing styles and themes in a relaxed environment at the Fort Morgan Library and Museum Community Room during monthly meetings of the Teen Creative Writing Club.

Join other teen writers on the second Wednesday of every month. The Teen Creative Writing Club is open to teens between the ages of 13 and 18. Community Fall Festival set for Nov. 16

First Baptist Church will host its first Community Fall Festival from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at 16756 Morgan County Road 18/West St. in Fort Morgan.

There will be bands playing live music, food, games, hay rides, balloons and fun for the whole family.

Genealogical Society to meet at EMCL on Nov. 19

The East Morgan County Genealogical Society will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at East Morgan County Library in Brush.

The meeting will happen in the Carnegie Room, and everyone with a little interest in discovering their past and ancestors is welcome.

Turkey Bowl Tournament set for Nov. 21

The Student Nurses Association will be doing their Turkey Bowl Tournament and silent auction the night before Thanksgiving again.

It is set for 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Morgan Lanes in Fort Morgan. There will be a silent auction, strike pot and crazy 8s available. Baby-sitting will not be offered this year due to limited space. Registration forms can be picked up at the bowling alley.

Next Food Bank of the Rockies mobile pantry truck visit is Nov. 28

The Food Bank of the Rockies mobile pantry truck will make its next monthly visit to Morgan County on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

The pantry truck stops at the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Brush from 10 a.m. to noon, and food assistance is provided for those seeking it. Provide your own bags or boxes. Info: Lisa Northrup at 970-768-4262.

Next free Legal Clinic set for Dec. 10

The next monthly Free Legal Clinic is set for 2 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Fort Morgan Public Library. It is open to parties with no attorney.

Volunteer attorneys, by computer, will answer questions, help fill out forms and explain the process and procedure for all areas of civil litigation, including family law, property law, probate law, collections, appeals, landlord-tenant law, small claims, veteran’s issues and civil protection orders. ‘Fall Into Winter’ author visit from Helen Thorpe set for Dec. 11

Fort Morgan Public Library and the Fort Morgan Heritage Foundation are sponsoring the “Fall into Winter” Colorado Author Series, which allows patrons to meet and hear from some of Colorado’s most popular and current authors.

Another author visit is from Helen Thorpe at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the library. She is a British-born author and freelance writer. After graduating from Princeton University. Thorpe worked as an intern for the Atlantic Monthly. She was also a staff writer for The New York Observer and New Yorker Magazine. For five years, Helen also lived in Austin and was a writer for Texas Monthly. Her stories have been featured in George, New York, Westword, The New York Times Magazine, 5280, The New Yorker, Slate and Harper’s Bazaar.

Her first book, “Just Like Us,” won the Colorado Book Award and was named one of the best books published that year by the Washington Post. Her second book, “Soldier Girls,” was named the No. 1 nonfiction book of the year by Time Magazine. Her third book, “The Newcomers,” was named as a finalist for the J. Anthony Lukas Work In Progress Award.
