When Avery Milanese gets the mail, she lights up.

“I’m like someone is here,” she laughed. “Who is it?”

As she walks us through her daily routine, she’ll be the first to tell you it’s important to keep her spirits up.

“I have a really positive attitude,” Avery told us.

The 9-year-old has cystic fibrosis. For the last few months, she has been in and out of hospitals dealing with a lot of pain.

She gets all of her nutrients from a feeding tube and has been mostly homebound, not even able to go to school.

“One night I talked to her on facetime and I thought, ‘how can I cheer her up,'” Luann Jaworski, Avery’s grandmother, said. “So that’s when I came up with the card idea.”

Through this hard time, there’s one thing that can make her feel a little better, cards coming from people all over.

“It’s just very heartwarming to see her smile in such a time where she’s not feeling good,” Alissa Jaworski, Avery’s mom, explained.

Avery reads every single one and she can’t wait to hopefully get a letter from you.

“It’s really exciting because I don’t know people all around the world,” she smiled. “So it’s really cool. It’s like interesting.”
