Government vows to hire salvage crews to retrieve bodies of fishermen feared dead in Argyll boat capsizing tragedy

THE government has vowed to cover the costs of the operation so £230,000 raised in a crowdfunding drive could be handed to the families of Duncan MacDougall and Przemek Krawczyk

SALVAGE teams will be hired in a bid to retrieve the bodies of two fishermen feared dead in the Nancy Glen tragedy, the Government has vowed.

Fisheries Minister Fergus Ewing said divers would attempt to search the wreck for Duncan MacDougall, 46, and Przemek Krawczyk, 38.

Mr Ewing added the government would cover the costs of the operation so £230,000 raised in a crowdfunding drive could be handed to Duncan and Przemek’s families.

Last night Przemek’s wife Gosia posted: “Przemek, my love you are coming home. Boys you are coming home. Thank you Scottish Government.”

Duncan’s wife Dawn replied: “About time, we need them home!”

It comes after accident investigators said the boat would not be recovered from Loch Fyne, Argyll.

Mr Ewing warned there was no guarantee of success.

It is hoped the boat can be raised to a position just below the surface to allow divers to enter and operate safely.

The Nancy Glen capsized on January 18.

Duncan and Przemek’s colleague John Miller, 34, was pulled from the water.
