LINDALE, TX (KLTV) - It’s been dubbed the “Entertainment Capital of East Texas”, and now the City of Lindale is doing something less than a handful of Texas cities have done before.

On Tuesday, the Mayor of Lindale proclaimed the city a “Texas Music Friendly Community,” the designation comes from the Texas Music Office, within the governor’s office.

With the designation comes opportunities for state funding to help support the growth of aspiring musicians and industry professionals.

The change will also be seen at Tyler Junior College, where they plan to add more music and arts content to their curriculum.

“If somebody comes to Texas and says hey where do I go to record or where do I go to learn about sound engineering, they will point their arrows toward Lindale Texas,” says Tye Phelps, Owner of Love and War in Texas, an event venue in Lindale.

Lindale is only the fifth city in the state to earn the designation. It joins Austin, Fort Worth, Denton and San Antonio as the smallest on the list.

“Lindale, Texas, why Lindale,” says Phelps. “It’s because the city is all on the same page of providing an environment for musicians and artist but, also because the state realizes that we are serious about fostering an environment for musicians and artist and the whole industry to thrive.”

The Texas Music Office will officially designate Lindale as a “Texas Music Friendly Community” at a celebration at Love and War in Texas on October 18 from 5-7 pm.
