The View started off with an especially heated Hot Topics segment this morning as the ladies dove right into Jim Jordan’s rant in Congress yesterday, in which the conservative politician angrily questioned Dr. Fauci about when Americans would “get our liberties back.” In response to the footage of Thursday’s congressional hearing, co-host Meghan McCain jumped to defend the Republican party, arguing that it’s in their DNA to stand up to authority.

“We think big government is bad,” McCain said. “We do not think just bending the knee to big government overlords is the answer to everything. That is an innate philosophical difference between Democrats and Republicans. And I think unfortunately, the virus and the vaccine have become really politicized, but to lay the blame at the feet of Republicans is just intellectually dishonest.”

In response to McCain’s comments, co-host Joy Behar shot back, “Listen, I know there’s a difference between the two parties, but why blame Fauci? Your argument is against government, not Fauci. He’s just a scientist who’s trying to do his job.” Before McCain could talk back, Behar moved on to co-host Sunny Hostin for her take on the news.

Earlier in the show, McCain also railed against Democrats like California Governor Gavin Newsom, who came under fire last year for having a private, indoor dinner at the French Laundry while his state was in lockdown. “I think it’s easy to just say Republicans are being contrarian,” she said. “In California, when you look at the draconian lockdowns that Gavin Newsom took to such an extent that have absolutely savaged small business owners.”

Pointing to a viral video of a woman in front of her bar, which was closed due to Covid, crying while a movie films on the street outside of her business, McCain said, “You’re telling me that’s not political? Because it was more important, according to Gavin Newsom, to have movies open than small bars and small businesses at the same time that he’s going and eating with his friends at the French Laundry inside, not wearing masks?”
