Trunomi pair on women in fintech power list

Chia Brewin

Two women executives at financial technology firm Trunomi have won top awards.

Bermudian Chia Brewin, who has been with the company two years, joins Anna Mazzone on the Women in Fintech 2016 Power List.

Stuart Lacey, Trunomi founder and CEO, said: “For a company like ours that prides itself on diversity and inclusion, this reinforces the leadership being demonstrated on a global basis by our amazing team.”

Ms Mazzone has led global customer development for the past year and also has a role on the company’s advisory board.

Ms Brewin, 24, has earned multiple promotions since she joined Trunomi and now leads global media, communications and marketing at the firm.

“With Bermuda being highlighted as a new centre for fintech, having our very own Bermudian next generation millennials such as Chia leading the way on the global stage, and being named on the 2016 global power list of women in fintech, is truly a testament to how much our country has to offer,” said Mr Lacey.

He added that Ms Brewin, on a six-week stint at the Trunomi offices in London’s Canary Wharf, had oversight of relationships and subcontractors, and heads marketing and media strategy with major Fortune 100 companies like Fujitsu and FIS.

Mr Lacey said the London posting was “a very significant role as our customer data and rights management platform starts being deployed in response to significant demand under new European regulatory requirements for privacy and data portability.”

Ms Brewin led the multi-month proof of concept with bank card company Visa and visited Tel Aviv with Mr Lacey last year, where she assisted in winning their innovation competition for Trunomi.

She also pitched Trunomi in Silicon Valley, in California, to Plug and Play, one of the world’s largest venture capital incubators, and won a three-month partnership with the firm from a field of 800 applicants.

Mr Lacey added: “She then took an in-residence position at their fintech lab this summer in Sunnyvale, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley — working with large US institutions and introducing our technologies to them and other leading venture capital investors.

“In the spirit of ‘watch one, do one, teach one’ she is now leading the on-boarding of new Trunomi team members and teaching best practices she has now mastered across our organisation.”

Trunomi was launched two years ago with the aim of creating technology to simply the process of sharing personal data, particularly between individuals and financial institutions.

Earlier this year, the firm raised $3 million in its latest round of seed funding.

Investors included Fintonia Group, a leading fintech venture capital firm based in Singapore and WorldQuant Ventures from the US.

The round was co-led by Saturn Partners and Fintonia, with the former adding to their investment in Trunomi alongside several other existing investors.
