Wilmington Superintendent's Funeral Service Today

WILMINGTON, MA -- Beloved Wilmington School Superintendent Joanne M. (Martignette) Benton's funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday in Winchester.

Benton, of Winchester and Humarock (part of Scituate), died on April 12 due to medical issues. It was about two weeks after she resigned her post as Wilmington's interim superintendent.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on April 19 from the Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main St. (Rte. 38), in Winchester.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Eulalia's Church in Winchester. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.

Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 18.

Interment will be at the Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester.

Benton, a former School Superintendent in Lexington, retired from the Wilmington Public Schools in 2014 after seven years as superintendent.

But she was called back into service by the Wilmington School Committee last October after Superintendent Mary DeLai resigned following her drunken-driving arrest.

She was the beloved wife of Theodore A. Benton, beloved sister of Alfonse and his wife Jean Martignette of Acton, and Carol Boswell of Woburn.

Also survived by many nieces, nephews and good friends.
