Watch: ‘The Office’ Star Craig Robinson’s Too Funny Michigan Voting Message

Craig Robinson, also the star of "Morris from America," croons about some beloved Michigan traditions.

This. This. A thousand times: This. Craig Robinson, the star of NBC’s “The Office” and the indie film “Morris from America” made what has to be one of the best get-out-the-vote (GOTV if you’re into campaign lingo) promotions in the history of elections to convince Michiganders to vote in the Nov. 8 general election.

Tuesday was the deadline to register to vote in the election, and though we’d never call you a “deplorable” or “loser” or pull out any other rhetoric from this most unusual of presidential campaigns, we might try to compose an unlovely, off-tune song — a contrast to Robinson’s melodic ode, posted on the Funny or Die website.

In the video, Robinson mentioned every beloved Michigan tradition we can think of, and a few we hadn’t, starting with the brisket sandwich from Zingerman’s Delicatessen in Ann Arbor and including Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co. and its founder, Henry Ford, Motown greats Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, Founders Brewing Co., University of Michigan Wolverines football, Isiah Thomas and the Detroit Pistons, Shinola watches and the Michigan left turn (yes, it’s a thing).

This, too: “Slam a Vernors without even coughing.”

And this: “Come on, Michigan,” Robinson whisper-croons, “you’re shaped like a potholder.”

The video is part of “Funny or Die’s Everyone Votes!” campaign, a non-partisan, multi-state campaign to increase participation among young voters in the Nov. 8 general election. It’s spearheaded by Funny or Die’s co-founder Judd Apatow, CEO Mike Farrah (originally from Ann Arbor) and managing director Brad Jenkins.

“Hundreds of millions of dollars have already been wasted this election cycle on political ads that no young American will watch,” Jenkins, campaign manager of “Everyone Votes” told AllRadioNews.com. “As we did for healthcare.gov, Funny Or Die is now being asked to save democracy. No pressure.”

Other states are also targeted in the campaign. Keegan Michael Key, an adopted Pennsylvanian originally from Detroit, stars in a public service announcement for the Keystone State, and Will Farrell is in the Florida campaign video. Katie Perry got a little raw in her video.
