Salt N Pepa was tops on the wish list for Kansas Expocentre leaders when eyeing the touring schedule for the "I Love the 90s" tour.

On Monday, general manager Kellen Seitz announced Salt N Pepa will headline the 90s concert Saturday, Aug. 4, at Landon Arena at the Expocentre.

"Salt N Pepa was who we really wanted as a headliner," he said. " I think they have the most hits, in my opinion, but as a headliner, we thought they were best for a show with such a strong female demographic."

He also believed the band, most well-known for its song "Push It," would "add to the ambiance and excitement of the show."

Joining Salt N Pepa are All-4-One, Coolio and Young MC. Other options were Vanilla Ice, Color Me Badd, Tone Loc and Rob Base. Seitz said artist availability was also a factor working with the touring company to select artists.

In addition to "Push it," Salt N Pepa, which hit its stride in the mid-1990s, is known for its hits “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “Shoop” and "Whatta Man."

Young MC emerged as a hitmaker in the late 1980s/early 1990s with such hits as "Bust A Move" and "Know How." Following a few years later were Coolio with “Gangsta’s Paradise” and All-4-One with "I Can Love You Like That" and “I Swear."

Concert attendees can expect to hear the artists' greatest hits and more.

Seitz said he is excited about the new vision for Expocentre entertainment.

"We've seen a lot of opportunities with content that has not historically been brought to the building," he said. "This type of live music is the direction we as Spectra and the Kansas Expocentre as a whole want to bring to Topeka."

Concert capacity is 7,000, Seitz said. The Expocentre has realistic goals for the event, which Seitz said he plans to do everything in his power to make a success.

Because of the versatility of these artists, Seitz said this show will appeal to anyone age 25 to 45 and spans across multiple demographics. The diversity of the audience will add to the experience and fun show atmosphere, he added.

Ticket presale began at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Remaining tickets will go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, at the Expocentre box office or ticketmaster.com. Prices are $26, $50, $70 and $106.
