Randall J. Slieter, an 8th District Court Judge from Renville County, has been appointed the 7th Congressional District’s judge on the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

Slieter will replace Judge Michael L. Kirk, whose retirement is effective on Nov. 8. Sleiter’s appointment was announced by Gov. Mark Dayton’s office on Oct. 5.

Before he was a Renville County District Court judge, Slieter was a partner at Qualley, Boulton & Slieter in Canby, Minnesota. He also has been a law clerk at the District of Minnesota’s U.S. Attorney’s Office, an adjunct professor at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and a Minnesota House legislative intern.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1983 and his juris doctorate from Mitchell Hamline in 1986.

Slieter is a member of the District Court/Tribal Court Forum, the Judicial Branch Education & Organizational Development Faculty Development Team and the Judicial Officer Technology Advisory Team, according to the governor’s office.

He was first appointed to the bench on May 20, 1994, by Gov. Arne Carlson and elected in 1996, 2002, 2008 and 2014, according to his Judicial Branch web page.
