OKC Thunder's Steven Adams met with exhibitors at the Oklahoma Youth Expo and learned more about their projects.

LAWTON, OK (TNN) - You may know Steven Adams as the center for the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he’s also quite the advocate for farmers and ranchers across the state. He partnered up with the Oklahoma Beef Council in January and since then, he’s been featured in Facebook videos promoting Oklahoma Beef.

Tuesday, he took his support for agriculture to the Oklahoma Youth Expo., meeting with over a thousand kids from across the state. It’s an opportunity brought to the kids by the Oklahoma Beef Council.

“It was brought to us and we said this makes a lot of sense to us because he has a background and has spent time growing up on a farm," said Heather Buckmaster, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Beef Council. " And he loves beef, so it gave us the chance to share the story of farming and ranching through a very unique lens.

We met a few southwest Oklahoma kids showing cattle who were just thrilled to meet the 7’ tall professional basketball player.

“It’s cool because we don’t have many opportunities in Frederick to do this and I’m really excited," said Frederick 7th grader, Tenley Mefford.

But even more special than the chance to meet Adams, is the interest he’s taken in something they’re passionate about.

“It’s incredible to have someone from all areas supporting agriculture, so that’s really huge for me," said Lawton MacArthur High School Junior, Colby Gilpen.

“I think it’s good he’s looking and seeing what we’re doing," Timber Mefford, a Frederick 5th grader said. “It’s a really cool experience.”

The Oklahoma Beef Council’s partnership with Adams ends September 30. Until then, they will continue to educate the public about the importance of beef and agriculture in the state.

”I think it’s wonderful and exciting to have someone that has that tie to agriculture and share that special connection and someone who has a worldwide voice," said Buckmaster.

The Oklahoma Youth Expo is the world’s largest junior livestock show and gives kids a chance to show off the animals they worked so hard raising. If you’d like to come out and see the kids in action you have until Thursday night at State Fair Park.
