Iowa State's Matt Campbell addresses coaching rumors after Cyclones' loss to Kansas State
MANHATTAN, Kan. — It’s just shy of a month until college football recruits can start signing national letters of intent. Iowa State coach Matt Campbell has a slew of them, ready to sign the dotted line, all probably wondering if the coach to whom they said 'yes' would be the man who eventually coached them.
"You can tell the recruits whatever you want, you know what I’m saying?” Campbell said after Saturday’s 20-19 loss at Kansas State. “But I think until you show it and until it’s proven, then it is what it is.
“I think that’s the reality we live in. Kids are smart. They’re 18- to 22-year-old kids. I think it ends up having to be your loyalty to stay where you are, be who you say you are, and I think that’s the key to success in terms of longevity and building a program."
PETE's 1ST WORD:A defensive breakdown and a questionable call doomed ISU
He’s signed through December 2021. His name is rampantly being mentioned for almost every Power Five job that’s out there — including most recently Nebraska.
Athletics director Jamie Pollard doesn’t discuss contract negotiation in the media. He knows, though, that he’s got a coach that will be on a lot of schools’ want list.

Don’t be surprised if a contract extension is forthcoming.
So what’s he tell recruits?
“I’d tell them ... we’re here for the long haul,” Campbell said Saturday. “We’re going to build this thing the right way. We’re going to do it with those guys.”
