Leon Ware, celebrated soul songwriter, has passed away

The musician and songwriter, who had penned hits for Michael Jackson and Minnie Riperton, was 77

The news that he passed away yesterday (23 February) was confirmed by his manager today. Leon Ware is best-known for his work as a singer-songwriter for Motown where he wrote for the likes of Isley Brothers and Donny Hathaway before going on to write a number of hits for well-known artists such as as Minnie Riperton and Michael Jackson. Jackson’s hit I Wanna Be Where You Are was penned by Ware.

He also appeared on Tyler the Creator’s OKAGA, CA, from his 2015 album Cherry Bomb.

The cause of death is currently unknown but the artist was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the 2000s. In 2009, the musician was supposedly recovering from the disease.
