Point Breeze Credit Union funding first tiny home for Carroll County veterans

Credit Union donated $15,000 to CCVIP to bring tiny homes, big mission to Carroll county veterans

HUNT VALLEY, MD (May 23, 2018) — Point Breeze Credit Union has donated $15,000 to the Carroll County Veterans Independence Project (CCVIP). The donation will fully fund the county’s first tiny home, which will be used as transitional housing for local veterans.

Point Breeze was the first company to step forward and donate towards the CCVIP’s tiny home campaign. In total, the CCVIP plans to build up to 20 tiny homes for veterans in the community.

The CCVIP, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has been established to provide shelter and support for Carroll County veterans and their families. Nationwide, over ei¬¬¬ght percent of veterans are homeless. There are over 13,000 veterans living in Carroll County and nearby communities.

“Homelessness is a significant issue impacting our veterans. Currently, there is no permanent shelter devoted specifically to veterans in Carroll County. The Veteran’s Independence Project will provide these veterans with the resources needed to get back on their feet,” said Point Breeze president and CEO Bernie McLaughlin. “As a community-focused credit union, supporting the local population and our veterans is extremely important to us. We’re proud to stand behind this organization and bring a small project that will have such a large impact on our veterans.”

The CCVIP will build up to 20 tiny homes; which are compact homes that can be built with little land preparation. Additionally, the CCVIP will convert the former U.S. Army Reserve Center in Westminster into a homeless veteran’s shelter. The tiny homes will act as an immediate step for veterans who are between living in the central shelter and transitioning back to the community.

“Point Breeze’s donation will go directly to supporting our homeless veterans here in Carroll County. The CCVIP expresses our thanks and appreciation for all that Point Breeze has done for us over the past couple of years,” shared Frank Valenti, president of CCVIP.

The CCVIP will also provide job training and education programs, and services related to transportation, physical and mental health and nutrition to veterans.
