EAST HAVEN >> A local police dog has been awarded a protective vest by an anonymous donor from a nonprofit organization.

Police dog Ace’s vest will be embroidered with the sentiment “Honoring those who served and sacrificed,” police said in a press release.

Ace is a 2-year-old German shepherd, who is handled by Officer Kevin McGuire of the patrol division, police said.

Ace is certified in patrol, narcotics and tracking, police said. Ace became a member of police department in April 2016 and began his police training in July 2016.

“K9 Ace is a valuable asset to the East Haven Police Department. He should be afforded the same protection as the rest of his fellow officers he serves besides day in and day out”, said K9 supervisor Sgt. Anthony Rybaruk in a statement.
