Joseph Wiest

Joseph A. Wiest, 77, Velva, ND, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018, in his home.

Joseph Allen Wiest was born September 23, 1940, the son of John J. and Catherine M. (Klein) Wiest, in Selz, ND. He was raised and educated in Selz, ND. As a young adult, he and his siblings assisted his parents on the family farm.

On April 16, 1966, Joseph was united in marriage to Marilyn Rose Ganje in Selz, ND. In 1970, they moved to Esmond, ND, where Joe and Marilyn started to raise their family. Joe started trucking with his brother, JP for Wiest Truck Line, which they did for many years. In 1977, Joe and Marilyn moved to Jamestown. They resided there until 1994, when they moved to Harvey. In 2001, they moved to Velva. Marilyn passed away July 30, 2011. Following his wife's death, he continued to reside in Velva.

He attended of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva, ND.

Joe enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, singing and loved providing and spending time with his family. His passion was working alongside his brother on the Buffalo Ranch. Joe's love for trucking was immense.

His loving family includes: children, Juliet K. Barr, Fargo, ND, Shonah L. (Kevin) Bonogofsky, Milnor, ND, Jacqueline M. (Chip) Cherwinski, Lisbon, ND, and Christopher G. (Crystal) Wiest, Minot and Lisa Wiest; adopted daughter, Kathy (Shawn) Schumacher, Jamestown; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Virgil (Cherry-Ann) Wiest, John Pierre (Judy) Wiest, Adrian Wiest, Vivien (Colleen) Wiest, Trev (Deb) Wiest, Sylvinius Wiest, Dwight (Twilia) Wiest; sisters, Corrine (Neil) Mack and Celine (Jim) Bausch; and many nieces, aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine Wiest; wife, Marilyn R. Wiest; sons, Jason A. and Keith A. Wiest; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Lena Ganje; sister, Juliet; brother, Emmanual Wiest.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Velva.

Interment: Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Velva, ND.

Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Velva.

Vigil Prayer Service: Friday at 7 p.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Velva.
