Shocking moment robber ploughs a Ford Focus into car wash workers pinning down his brother after the pair tried to rob their former employers

  • Ben Taylor had attempted to rob his former workplace when he was restrained
  • Former colleagues at the car wash recognised him even though he was masked
  • His brother Aaron McLoughlin drove into the car wash workers to rescue Taylor

CCTV footage has captured the horrifying moment a driver ploughed into a group of car wash workers to rescue his brother who was being restrained after an attempted robbery went wrong.

Ben Taylor and Aaron McLoughlin, both of Oaklands Court, Addlestone, Surrey were jailed on Tuesday following the attempted robbery at The Original Car Spa - their previous workplace.

The video shows Taylor walking into the car washing area on October 7, 2017 before threatening and demanding money.

Workers at the car wash rush to help owner Alastair Stott and his son and employee Jordan Stott, and they manage to restrain Taylor.

However, the situation takes a shocking turn when a black Ford Focus driven by Taylor's brother Aaron McLoughlin enters the car wash forecourt and accelerates towards the struggling group.

The car hits a kerb, causing it to slow down slightly, before it crashes into the workers, sending two people flying into a wall.

One of the men manages to open the driver's door and kick McLoughlin but Taylor escapes in the get-away car.

The Ford Focus was later found outside the house of McLoughlin's girlfriend and the pair were traced to Eastbourne, East Sussex, where they were arrested in a chip shop.

While searching their rooms, police found eight wraps of heroin, each weighing an eighth of a gram, in Taylor's bag.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Lloyd Ives said: 'This was an incredibly vicious and targeted attempted robbery by two men who thought they would get away with easy money from their former employers.

'What they didn't bargain on was the self-defence shown by the victims in this case, however those victims were incredibly lucky not to have suffered more severe injuries having been driven at.

'Fortunately the events were captured on CCTV and showed the entire incident which proves how important it is to make sure your security systems are working and up to date.'

The police also revealed that they found the brothers in the chip shop by chance.

'We started off by searching through fields on the outskirts of their home address in Addlestone as we had information they might have been sleeping in a tent and considered using a drone with a heat-seeking camera,' said DC Ives.

'However our focus shifted to Eastbourne town centre later in the day as we looked for the car which we suspected would be parked on a public road somewhere because of the setup of the town – and we found it soon enough but we still had to find the brothers.

'By chance we found them both in a chip shop and arrested them on the spot.'

Taylor, 26, was jailed for four-and-a-half years at Guildford Crown Court for attempted robbery, assault by beating and possession of a class A drug.

McLoughlin, 23, was jailed for 20 months for dangerous driving.

Both pleaded guilty on Monday.
