This morning's Philadelphia 76ers links look at how the team is honoring the memory of a franchise great and how the Sixers expect to rebound from their first loss in more than a month.
On Saturday -- the same day the Sixers won their first playoff game since 2012 -- franchise legend Hal Greer passed away. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame enshrine was one of the first great players in Sixers history.
He joined the franchise in 1958 when it was still the Syracuse Nationals, and he spent his whole 15-year career with the Nationals and Sixers. Greer was a 10-time All-Star and seven-time All-NBA selection. He averaged 22.1 points per game during the Sixers' 1966-67 title run.
Greer was the Sixers' all-time leader in points, field goals, field goals attempted, games and minutes played. He was named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history in 1996. Greer's No. 15 was the first number retired by the Sixers, and his likeness was the first sculpture unveiled on the 76ers Legends Walk at the team's training complex in Camden, N.J.
The Sixers are honoring Greer with his No. 15 inside of a black band on their jerseys for the playoffs, the team announced:
The Sixers dropped Game 2 of their series with the Miami Heat on Monday night, thanks to a massive performance from Dwyane Wade. The two teams face off Thursday night in Miami in Game 3. The series is tied, 1-1.
