Chicago PD star Jason Beghe has publicly apologised to his co-workers over anger management issues that sparked an internal investigation at NBC.

The Peacock Network ultimately required Beghe to work with an anger management coach when it received an official human resources complaint about his flashes of anger and penchant for making offensive comments on set, according to Variety.

A production source told the magazine that Beghe's workplace conduct has improved since working with the coach, and that no new complaints against him had been filed in the last six months.

An NBC spokesperson said: "When it was brought to our attention that there were concerns about inappropriate behavior on set, we promptly began an investigation in partnership with Human Resources and all parties involved.

"As a result of the investigation, we have already taken action, and it is a situation we continue to monitor very closely to ensure all of our employees feel safe and supported."

Beghe's anger management issues also reportedly played a part in lead actress Sophia Bush quitting the show suddenly at the end of its fourth season earlier this year.

When faced with criticism from fans for leaving Chicago PD shortly thereafter, Bush responded cryptically on Instagram: "Took me a long time and a lot of hard work to get out of that show, Please don't demean my capabilities by degrading my position. I left because I wanted to. End of story."

Beghe reacted to news coverage of his troubles on the set of Chicago PD by issuing a mea culpa to any of the "friends and colleagues" he'd offended on the set of the NBC procedural.

"I am deeply sorry for my behavior, which I know has been hurtful to my friends and colleagues," Beghe said. "I have struggled with anger issues for some time, and over the past year, I have been working with a coach to help me learn how to mitigate my temper.

"It's an ongoing process, and it has been a humbling one. It is a source of great pride for me to be part of Chicago PD's incredible cast and crew. I have personally apologized to anyone who I have upset, and I am committed to doing what is necessary to make up any damage that I may have caused."

Chicago PD is currently in the middle of its fifth season, which is airing on Wednesdays at 10pm ET on NBC in the US.
