Kate Upton and Justin Verlander missed their own wedding because of World Series Game 7

Kate Upton and Justin Verlander tied the knot in Italy a few days after winning the World Series, but in an appearance on The Tonight Show Friday, the happy couple explained that they had originally planned to be in Italy on the day of Game 7 because they didn’t expect the Detroit Tigers to still be playing baseball.

Verlander was traded from the last-place club to the Astros on August 31st at the deadline, and because Astros-Dodgers World Series went all seven games, Verlander and Upton were the only people not at their own wedding.

Upton: We planned the wedding before… obviously, he was traded, and we’ve been planning this thing.

Verlander: We were planning this thing saying ‘you know, if best case scenario we go to the World Series, there’s really only one thing that could throw a huge wrench into all of our plans. It’s not the World Series, it’s going to Game 7 of the World Series.’

Upton: And guess where we went!

Upton: Everybody’s in Italy. Everyone’s at the venue. We had an event that night and everyone’s texting us like “your wedding is so pretty! Wish you were here!”

Verlander: We got taken around our wedding via FaceTime.
