Troopers: 75-year-old motorcyclist killed in head-on crash

A 75-year-old Ormond Beach motorcyclist was killed in a head-on crash Sunday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Richard Powell, 40, of Longwood was driving his 2012 Toyota Corolla northbound on County Road 455 near Cavallo Drive in Lake County around 3:20 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, he swerved the right and then overcorrected, FHP spokesperson Lt. Kim Montes.

Thomas Valley, 75, of Ormond Beach was struck head-on, flung from his 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle and killed, Montes said.

No injuries were reported for Powell.

"This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending," Montes said in an email.

This fatality comes just a day after a 71-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash near Osteen.
