OAKLAND — Vallejo police have identified the three officers who fired at a heavily armed man during a Nov. 1 shootout here, which followed a 30-mile police chase that reach speeds of 100 miles per hour.

In response to a public records request from the Vallejo Times-Herald, police identified Officer Matt Komoda, Officer James Duncan, and Sgt. George Simpson as the officers who shot at Fremont resident Dominic James Milano, 40, after Milano allegedly fired at officers with an assault rifle and a pistol.

Vallejo police did not respond to multiple requests for comment on the shooting.

Milano has been charged with attempted to kill three Vallejo officers: Komoda, as well as Detective Joe Caitham and Officer Lenard Alamon. He was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing body armor, and evading police.

Milano has pleaded not guilty and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for February, according to Solano County prosecutors. The entire case was filed in Solano County, including the alleged crimes that occurred in Oakland.

The charges stem from a multi-county police pursuit that started in the Glen Cove neighborhood of Vallejo, where officers tried to question Milano in an investigation that involved “serious criminal threats,” a police news release said. From there, Milano led police on a pursuit through Contra Costa County, and into Oakland via Highway 24.

He ended up crashing his car in the 2200 block of International Boulevard, where he allegedly fired at the Vallejo officers. After an exchange of gunfire, Milano was arrested and taken to a hospital. He was later released from the hospital and booked into the Solano County jail, with bail set at $2.5 million.

Prosecutors say the three officers did not fire at Milano from moving patrol cars, and that the shooting began after he crashed his car. Police allegedly recovered an AK-47, a handgun and a bulletproof vest from Milano’s car.

This was the second time in 2018 Vallejo officers shot a suspect.
