Connors State eclipsed the century mark for the fourth consecutive game, pounding host Southwestern Christian College Junior Varsity 105-70 Wednesday on the Moundbuilders’ home floor in Bethany.

The 23rd-ranked Cowboys remain unbeaten (5-0) and will conclude their four-game road trip Thursday at Oklahoma Wesleyan in Bartlesville. Tip-off is 7 p.m.

Connors had five players score in double figures with Elijah Landrum, the Region II Player of the Week, leading the assault with 24 points. The sophomore drained four of the Cowboys’ five shots from behind the arc. Terrance Jones followed Landrum with 21 points. Tyrees Sidberry added 18 points with Callen Haydon, who saw his first action of the season after recovering from a broken hand, scored 15 points as did Burke Putnam.

The Cowboys led from start to finish, holding a 52-39 lead at the half.

OKLAHOMA STATE 82, UTSA 60 —  Cam McGriff scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds to help lead Oklahoma State to an 82-60 victory over UTSA Wednesday night in Stillwater.

Thomas Dziagwa had 16 points and six rebounds while Lindy Waters added 14 points and seven rebounds, as Oklahoma State (1-1) won its 43rd consecutive home opener.

Byron Frohnen led UTSA (0-3) with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Adokiye Iyaye had 10 points.

It was a nice bounce-back performance for Oklahoma State following the disastrous ending to their season opener on Saturday. In that one, Charlotte erased a 24-point Cowboy lead over the final 14 minutes, including a game-clinching 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds remaining.

This time, Oklahoma State built a 14-point advantage late in the first half, then saw it dwindle to just four early in the second, but responded with a game-changing 18-1 run that put them ahead 56-35 with 11:34 remaining.

The Cowboys led 61-41 after Maurice Calloo’s basket with 8:45 to go and UTSA scored the next five points to make the OSU crowd a bit nervous, but Oklahoma State answered with a 10-2 run to put the game out of reach for good.

ROGERS STATE 71, NSU 66 — Muskogee High ex Tavian Davis helped spark Rogers State’s second-half rally with free throws, including the final pair with :01 left. Davis finished with 11 points and six assists. Latrell Tidwell led Rogers (2-1) with 18 points.

NSU (2-1) led by 13, 55-42, on Trent Cantrell’s jumper with 11:55 left as late as the 5:53 mark when Davis’ free throw tied the game.

Tanner Mouse led NSU with 20 points. Caleb Smith had 18 points.

 

Women

NSU 63, ROGERS STATE 55 — Sequoyah sophomore Cenia Hayes poured in 16 points, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and the RiverHawks collected their first win in three regular-season outings.

NSU trailed by six, 37-31, with 5:11 to go in  the third quarter before NSU went on a 22-4 run. Maegan Lee’s 3 gave NSU the lead for good with :39 left in the quarter, and the RiverHawks increased that to 53-41 with 5:15 to go in the fourth on Julia Hill’s layup.
