Texas band Folk Family Revival found new life in old styles for its new album.

The band - which returns to Amarillo for a 9:30 p.m. Friday show at Leftwood's, 2511 S.W. Sixth Ave. - underwent an entire style transformation for "Waterwalker," which was released in April.

"It's not that we didn't like the old style; it's the plan we made before we started touring," singer Mason Lankford said. "We wanted to make sure every record sounds a lot different than the previous one, and it's not an easy task to do it."

The band's 2011 debut, "Unfolding," "was kind of a country-folk influenced record," said Lankford, who's joined by brothers Barrett and Lincoln to make the core of the band. "This one is more influenced by psych rock, surf rock '60s sounds."

Lankford said the style for the album was inspired in part by the skill of the band's guitarist, Caleb Pace.

"He fits really well with that kind of stuff," Lankford said. "For him to be able to do what he does, we have to play rock 'n' roll. For him to live up to his potential, we can't stay limited to folk music."

Also performing are Maggie Burt & Friends and Eddie & The Eat.

Cover charge is $5.
