UPDATE: Several inches of snow forecast for Gainesville, Hall County

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Several inches of snow are forecast for Gainesville and Hall County between Friday night and Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Hall is one of several north Georgia counties under a Winter Storm Warning, with up to eight inches of snow possible in extreme northeastern Georgia, where it was already snowing Friday morning.  Freezing rain is also likely to be a problem in some areas, along with winds gusting to around 50 mph, leading to the possibility of downed trees and powerlines.

The Weather Service says it now expects rain and freezing rain Friday in Gainesville and Hall County but with little or no accumulation of ice.  The rain is likely to turn to snow Friday night with one-to-three inches possible overnight and another half-inch on Saturday..

Meanwhile, a Flood Watch is in effect with up to two inches of rain expected across north Georgia in advance of the sleet and snow.
