Lebanon resident told to take Christmas decoration down
Deanna Rupa is being told to take a Christmas decal off her home.
"It's a sticker from Walmart, art mural, it's art, " Rupa said.
She rents a home in Lebanon and has for many years. On Nov. 7, the city issued a $750 citation for defacement of property.
"My neighbor across the street has several items hanging temporarily from her home, some people may like it, some may not, but why isn't she being cited?" Rupa said.
City building inspector and zoning official- John G. Thompson explains he's been directed by the property maintenance board that nothing is supposed to be on the home.
This is the third citation for defacement of property. Earlier this year, Rupa's home was covered in elaborate and colorful murals she painted, which is against city code.
"All along it's never had anything to do with what the message is on the house. It's just the fact that it's there. The neighbors feel it devalues their property," Thompson said.
Thompson said when the latest citation was issued, the Christmas decal was up and Rupa's walls were still painted.
"The only thing there now today is the sticker but the citation was sent out last week whenever there was still stuff on an outbuilding," Thompson said.
Thompson is planning to bring members of the property maintenance board and Rupa together- to decide if the decal is accepted under city code.
