CONNECTICUT — Up to two inches of rain, the chance of strong thunderstorms and wind gusts, and flooding concerns will dominate a good portion of the holiday weekend weather forecast for Connecticut.

A Flood Warning remains in effect for parts of Connecticut. The National Weather Service says the warning is for the "Connecticut River At Hartford affecting Hartford and Middlesex Counties and Connecticut River At Middle Haddam affecting Middlesex County."

"The combination of recent heavy rainfall and snowmelt across the upper reaches of the Connecticut River basin have caused river gauge readings along the lower Connecticut River to reach and exceed flood stage levels," the NWS says.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all of Southern Connecticut through Saturday evening.

"A slow moving frontal system will approach the region early Saturday. Heavy rain will become likely early Saturday and last through Saturday afternoon. Total rainfall amounts will be around 1 inch with locally higher amounts possible. Excessive runoff will be possible which would lead to flooding of urban and poor drainage areas. In addition, smaller rivers and streams could overflow their banks," the NWS says.

And for Northern Connecticut, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect from late tonight through Saturday evening. "Widespread rain with embedded heavier showers is expected to develop late Friday night continuing through Saturday evening. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts may result in urban and poor drainage flooding."

Timeline of the Stormy Weather

It appears Friday won't be so bad. There may be some sporadic rain showers but the heavy rain and thunderstorms are most likely to occur throughout the day on Saturday. The silver lining is that Easter Sunday looks mostly dry with a slight chance of a rain shower. A bulk of the stormy weather is forecast for all day Saturday.
