Sassy-Frass is an 8-month-old shepherd mix that’s available for adoption from the Effingham County animal shelter.

“She has a lot of personality,” said Lorna Shelton, shelter director. “She’s really a nice little dog.”

Shelton said the dog is a medium size and is energetic. She’ll make a great pet for someone who has time to spend with her and train her.

Also up for adoption is Sherbert, an adult cat that is already neutered and ready to go home with someone.

“He’s mellow and affectionate,” Shelton said. “He’s handsome. He looks like a bowl of sherbert!”

Starting in December, the shelter will be open the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for adoptions only. The shelter will not accept drop offs of animals on Saturdays.

The adoption fee is $75 for dogs and $60 for cats.

For that fee, dogs are tested for heartworms, dewormed, given the DHPP vaccine, rabies and bordetella (kennel cough) vaccines, and are spayed or neutered.

Cats are given an FIV/FeLV combo test, dewormer, the FVRCP and rabies vaccines, and are spayed or neutered.

Unaltered animals may not be taken home on the day of adoption. They are scheduled for spay or neuter and may be picked up at the clinic that performs the operation.

The shelter’s phone number is 912-754-2109. It is open for adoptions 1 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, and 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It accepts drop-offs from 1 to 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdaysand Fridays.
