Peoria, Ill. — The risk of severe weather has decreased for much of Central Illinois Monday evening though continues for areas along and south of a Havana to Danville line where a tornado watch is in effect until 3 am Tuesday.
Despite moderate to strong surface instability and strong wind shear, storms struggled to maintain their strength due to lower than expected instability aloft. The end result was a few low-precipitation cells that took on some rotation but didn’t produce any severe weather.
Despite the decreased severe weather threat along I-74, scattered storms remain possible overnight as an upper-level wave moves through the region. Brief downpours and gusty winds will be the primary threats.
