7/16/2008 Caylee's mother Casey was arrested for child neglect the day after the missing child report was filed. Casey placed the blame on a babysitter, Zenaida Fernandez-Gonalez, saying that Caylee vanished while under her care. 7/17/2008 Officers searched Casey's car and a cadaver dog picked up the scent of human decomposition.
10/14/2008 Casey Anthony pleaded not guilty when she was finally indicted on capital murder charges.
12/19/2008 Six months after the last reported appearance of Caylee, skeletal remains were found in a wooded area near the Anthony family's home. A small skull resembling that of a little girl with duct tape across the front was found in a plastic bag. The remains were identified as having to belonged to Caylee Anthony, but the medical examiner was unable to determine the cause of death.AP

7/02/2011Cindy Anthony's former employer contradicted claims that she conducted the internet search for "chloroform" herself on a home computer when he testified that she was in the office on the days in question.
7/05/2011 After less than 11 hours of deliberation by the jury (comprised of 5 men and 7 women who were brought in from Tampa Bay due to how much media attention the case received), Casey Anthony was found not guilty of first-degree murder charges of her daughter, Caylee.
7/07/2011 Although the jury was unable to find Casey guilty of first-degree murder of her daughter, they were able to find the 25-year-old guilty of four counts of providing false information to the police who were investigating the disappearance and murder of Caylee. She was sentenced to 4 years in prison, and $4,000 in fines.

7/08/2011 People were absolutely stunned that after a 33-day trial that portrayed Casey Anthony as a hard-partying monster accused of killing her daughter, the jury still failed to convict her of murder. The media and public were outraged.
7/17/2011 Casey Anthony was released from jail after serving less than 3 years of the 4 year sentence she received for lying to the police. Her shorter time served took into account the time she spent in jail awaiting trial, as well as good behavior. Upon her release, hell broke loose, including protests outside of the jail.
7/18/2011 Due to death threats, Casey was taken to a secret location that even her parents didn't know about. Casey's attorney, José Baez, assured her parents that she was safe via text messages.
