Man Killed In Highway 101 Crash In Corte Madera Identified

Firefighters from the Central Marin and San Rafael fire departments cut the sedan open to free Tamotsu Goya, 88, from the vehicle.

CORTE MADERA, CA – The Marin County coroner's office has identified a driver who died in a solo vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Corte Madera as Tamotsu Goya, 88, of Millbrae.

Goya's sedan went off southbound U.S. Highway 101 at the Tamalpais Drive over-crossing and struck a guardrail and a tree, California Highway Patrol officials said.

CHP officers responded around 2 p.m. Firefighters from the Central Marin and San Rafael fire departments cut the sedan open to free Goya from the vehicle. He was taken to Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae but succumbed to his injuries before 5 p.m., according to the CHP.

CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said Goya may have suffered a medical emergency. An autopsy is scheduled for this week, Chief Deputy Coroner Roger Fielding said.
