Man Sentenced In South Denver Attack

DENVER (CBS4)- A man who sexually assaulted a woman at a light rail station in a brutal, random attack has been sentenced to prison.

Dominique Redwood was convicted of second-degree kidnapping, sexual assault and aggravated robbery in a trial earlier this year.

He was sentenced to a total of 50 years to life in prison in Denver District Court on Friday afternoon.

Police said Redwood, 20, attacked a 23-year-old woman when she was leaving the light rail station at Belleview and Quebec on March 6, 2011. Redwood walked up behind her, robbed her at knifepoint of her wallet and cell phone and then forced her into an elevator where he sexually assaulted her.

With the help of RTD security officers, detectives with the Denver Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit were able to identify Redwood as a suspect and arrested him just a few days later.
