A Valrico man is one of the five people who accepted a plea deal and will serve jail time for the hazing death of a Florida State University student.

On Monday, Kyle Bauer, Brett Birmingham, Christopher Hamlin, Conner Ravelo and John Ray pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor hazing, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.  Hamlin is from Valrico.

The men originally faced up to five years in prison for a felony hazing charge before agreeing to plead guilty to a misdemeanor hazing charge.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports four of the men will serve 60-day jail sentences and a fifth will serve 30 days after cooperating with the investigation.

The men were in the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, where 20-year-old Andrew Coffey died of alcohol poisoning in November. Officials say Coffey died after he drank an entire bottle of 101 proof bourbon during a hazing ritual.  Investigators said his blood alcohol level was more than five times the legal limit for driving. The report finds that after Coffey passed out, fraternity members moved his body and continued playing pool around him.

The death led to the university temporarily banning alcohol and social functions at fraternities and sororities.

Four other men remain charged and are scheduled to go to trial in June.

Two Tampa Bay area men were among the nine students charged. According to a grand jury report, Christopher M. Hamlin, 20, of Valrico, and Anthony Oppenheimer, 21, of Wesley Chapel were charged with college hazing-cause injury or death.
