WHO’S NOT COMING BACK. Some key Republicans are not returning to the New Hampshire House of Representatives.WMUR was first to report on Friday that 16-term Rep. Neal Kurk, R-Weare, six-term chairman of the House Finance Committee, decided not to file for personal reasons, while telling colleagues he may run again in the future.Also not filing for re-election were Reps. Dan Itse, R-Fremont, vice chairman of the House Children and Family Law Committee, after serving nine terms. Itse, whose son tragically passed away earlier this year, emailed colleagues that he has decided to relocate.Rep. JR Hoell, R-Dunbarton, a leader of the conservative New Hampshire House Freedom Caucus, is not seeking a fifth term.In an email to New Hampshire Primary Source, Hoell cited personal and business reasons. He said a business he co-founded in 2016 is expanding rapidly and, “My partners need more of my time.”“Therefore, I have moved into a role of coach for the incoming House member,” he wrote. "I'm going to be helping candidates win office and be effective.”Key legislators also not returning are Republican Reps. Claire Roulliard of Goffstown, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Joe Hagan of Chester, House Labor Committee Chairman Stephen Schmidt of Wolfeboro and Kathleen Souza of Manchester.Meanwhile, among those who are making comeback attempts are former state Rep. Fred Doucette of Salem and retired Judge and former state Sen. Ned Gordon of Bristol, who is running for the House.
