ST. LOUIS, MO β€” Police have arrested two men suspected of carjacking a man in Soulard Thursday night. KMOV reports police used spike strips to stop the silver Lexus on Cherokee Street near Iowa Avenue, a few miles south of where the vehicle had been stolen. Several other suspects may have escaped police on foot.

Police have warned St. Louis residents about a spate of violent carjackings in recent weeks. Four people were carjacked in separate incidents in St. Louis last weekend. Two Women carjacked in St. Charles County and the founder of a local charity was shot in a carjacking in St. Louis Tuesday.

Authorities say to be aware of your surroundings and to always park in well-lit areas, especially after midnight. Don't sit in your car while parked and keep your doors locked at all times. During a carjacking, do not resist. Let the thief have your car and focus on being a good witness, authorities say. Try to remember what he or she was wearing and as many physical details as possible. Observe the direction in which they drive away, and call 9-1-1 as soon as possible.
