1 person found dead in house fire near Emporia

One person is dead following a house fire southwest of Emporia.

firefighters were called out to the 700 block of Road 140 shortly after 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Crews arrived on the scene to find the home consumed by fire. It burned for nearly three hours.

Crews from Emporia, Emporia Rural, Americus, Chase County, Miller, Neosho Rapids, Olpe and Reading all responded to the fire.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office, the Emporia Fire Department and the Kansas Fire Marshal's Office are all investigating the fire and its cause.
