AVONDALE, AZ — Arizona's newly-renovated ISM Raceway will host the 2020 NASCAR Championship Weekend, NASCAR officials and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced Tuesday.

The championship series will take place Nov. 6-8, 2020. This year's championship race will be held at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida, where it has been held since 2002, according to Nascar.com.

“We are ecstatic to welcome NASCAR’s Championship Weekend to Arizona,” said Gov. Ducey, in a statement. “As our state continues to welcome new residents and businesses, Arizona has proven to be the premier destination for the biggest events in all of sports, and today’s announcement adds to that reputation."

Last year, the racetrack formerly known as Phoenix International Raceway, underwent a $178 million renovation. Among the enhancements: an infield fan garage zone where fans can come face-to-face with drivers, a new grandstand, a redesigned pit road, and the relocating of the checkered finish line.

The Phoenix racetrack will continue to host the TicketGuardian 500 series -- the fourth race of the season -- in March. The 2020 dates for that race are March 6-8.

This year, ISM Raceway will once again host the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series semifinal race, the second-to-last race on the schedule, on Nov. 10, 2019. Phoenix has hosted that race since 2005.

The first NASCAR race -- Checker 500 -- was held at the track in November 1988.

Tickets for the 2020 Championship will go on sale at a later date, a news release said. However, those who purchase tickets to the November race in Phoenix will have the first chance at tickets to the 2020 race.
