THE City of Harare has called for foreign and domestic investors to secure investment in the opportunity rich capital’s different sectors as the council embraces the national agenda of opening up for business.

In an interview with Business Chronicle in Bulawayo yesterday at the City of Harare exhibition stand at the ongoing Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) 2018, the city’s marketing and public relations officer, Mr Mike Chideme, said the city had enough land for sustainable infrastructural development and was looking for players to develop it. He said opportunities in the commercial sector include construction of malls and revamping of old shops, building of schools and developing the health sector through building of hospitals.

Mr Chideme also indicated that there were opportunities in the tourism sector where there are a number of parks that need development as the city works towards solidifying its place as the Sunshine City.

“In Harare there are vast investment opportunities in the commercial sector, housing and tourism. We have land set aside for shopping malls, for office construction and existing shopping centres in need of renewal,” he said.

“In the tourism sector, we have a lot of recreational parks in need of revamping into parks with theme restaurants, entertainment areas for children and others. We need to revive the sunshine in the city because our sunshine talks of vibrancy.”

Investors have in the past complained of investment barriers and paperwork that slow down the process of investing in various sectors and Government has put emphasis on improving the ease of doing business.

In line with Government’s thrust, Mr Chideme said the city had addressed that and extended his invitation to investors, guaranteeing them ease of doing business and less bureaucracy.

He said: “Come to Harare we have the ease of doing business guidelines and we won’t waste your time as we will process your applications in the shortest possible time”.

Harare is the capital city of Zimbabwe. The city was founded in 1890 by the Pioneer Column, which was a military volunteer force organised by Cecil Rhodes. Harare was given the status of a fort at that time.
