Alabama will be down one of its top wide receivers against Tennessee.

Devonta Smith, No. 2 on the Crimson Tide in receptions (21) and receiving yards (409), did not make the trip to Knoxville. The wideout was injured in the Missouri game. The hope is that by sitting out the Tennessee game, Smith’s hamstring will get better and he’ll be able to return to action.

While Smith has put up good numbers, Alabama is not at a loss for play-making pass-catchers. WR Jerry Jeudy is the team leader in the three major categories (receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns). WR Henry Ruggs III and TE Irv Smith Jr. also have more receiving touchdowns (6, 4) than Smith (3).

Smith’s absence does not come as a surprise. Earlier this week, Saban said the wideout was unable to practice.
