Spotify recently released its list of top wedding songs in the United States. And, naturally, Florida’s song has a catchy tropical dance beat.
It’s “La Gozadera” by Gente de Zona, the Cuban reggaeton duo made up of Randy Malcom Martinez and Alexander Delgado.
The 2016 song, which also features Latin pop singer Marc Anthony, includes shout-outs to Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean, Central and South American countries. The video has almost 1 billion views on YouTube.
Spotify and Eliot Van Buskirk, author of the company’s Insights blog, broke down the most popular love songs by state based on wedding playlists people have made since the streaming service launched in 2008, according to The Washington Post.
Maybe it has something to do with the lyrics about a “gozadera,” which means a good time or party. The song’s opening line — “Miami me lo confirmo …” — speaks to the fact that the city of Miami has gotten the party started.
The group Gente de Zona has had other South Florida ties.
The duo rapped on Jennifer Lopez’s new song, “Ni Tu Ni Yo,” this summer for her upcoming Spanish-language album. JLO and Gente de Zona shot the video in Islamorada last May.
The group is also known for its collaborations with other Latin pop stars, including Miami’s Enrique Iglesias.
Gente de Zona will be performing Nov. 4 at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami as part of the 2017 iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina.
So which songs scored big in other states?
New Jersey’s top wedding pick was “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen. Delaware’s nuptials song was “Here and Now” by Luther Vandross. California’s was “California Love” by Tupac Shakur. And the District of Columbia’s most popular wedding song was “The Way You Do the Things You Do” by The Temptations.
