Four people are recovering at the hospital after a semitruck carrying dozens of hogs ran a stop sign and smashed into an SUV, Iowa State Patrol officials said.

The crash happened at approximately 12:20 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Highway 65 and Highway 330 near Mingo.

The truck driver, as well as two adults and one child in the car, were injured.

A female passenger was flown to a Des Moines-area hospital, but she was conscious and talking, a state trooper at the scene told KCCI. The other victims were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

State patrol troopers said the semitruck was southbound on Highway 65 when it ran a stop sign while crossing Highway 330, hitting and squishing the car going southwest.

“This intersection is in the process of being redone, and we’ve been out here several times in the last several years for this very type of accident,” said Sgt. David Halverson, with the Iowa State Patrol.

The work on the intersection should be done by late summer.
