Food & Wine magazine has announced its picks for best new chefs of 2013, and Los Angeles-based Michael Voltaggio of ink. is among the winners.

According to the Food & Wine website, Voltaggio was honored “because his modernist cuisine pushes boundaries — he’ll serve octopus over buttered-popcorn puree — but it is still delicious.”

Voltaggio isn’t exactly new to the food scene in Los Angeles, but to be eligible, chefs must be in charge of a kitchen for five or fewer years.
