A man in a wheelchair was killed crossing the street Monday in North Patchogue.

Police say the accident happened just before 9 p.m.

Detectives say a man in his wheelchair was crossing Waverly Avenue when he was hit by a pick-up truck.

The 62-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver was not hurt and stayed at the scene.
